BANGKOK FOOD by twoskinnypigs

The twoskinnypigs always repetitively visit the same old places again and again and again every single trip. So, where do we usually go?

#PIG STOP 0
Cha Tra Mue brand Thai Milk Tea
- In search for the best thai milk tea? Trust me , this is the one. Easily found anywhere in airports, malls, train stations as takeaway shops, this creamy fragrant thai milk tea has never been a disappointment.
The twoskinnypigs recommend the Original Thai Milk Tea (Cold)

#PIG STOP 1
Nai-Ek Roll Noodles, Chinatown (Yaowarat Road)
This specific restaurant opens from morning till late night, and serves amazing pork dishes. The owner of this restaurant is able to converse in chinese and english, which makes ordering food much easier for non-thai's.

Clean and affordable, quick services and tasty food. What more to ask for? Haven't had the chance to try all their dishes but the twoskinnypigs will get there soon. Yaowarat Road has plenty of popular food but somehow this humble and decent stall wins our heart and stays at first place on Chinatown's food list.

The twoskinnypigs recommend the Rolled Noodles with Soup, Pork Spareribs Stew & Pork Leg Stew.
Roll Noodle Soup with Pork Entrails, 50 baht
- The soup was light, just nice, not too much pepper and the rolled noodles was of perfect texture, it did not stick to one another, not too soft. A mixture of entrails of your choice, all of them boiled till tender and juicy.

theskinnypig's favorite dish, Pork Spareribs Stew, 80 baht
- Soft, tender and full of flavor, goes really well with the kailan. That brown sauce is addictive.

thenotsoskinnypigs favorite, Stewed Pork Leg 50baht
- Recommended to eat with their sweet and spicy chili, customers can opt for less fatty meat.

Price : 50baht - 150baht per plate
Location :  442 Soi 9, Yaowarat Road | SamphanthawongBangkok
Operating hours : 0900am-2400am, daily

P/S : There's a dessert shop right beside Nai Ek Roll Noodles which serves really really really really amazing Local Thai Desserts. However it only opens in the morning. Be sure to try it!

Soi Convent Noodles, Sala Daeng
- Noodles are everywhere... nearly all restaurants serve them, on the streets you can find them, food courts serve them and noodles are literally everywhere!  Here, allow theskinnypigs to introduce to you, our favorite noodle hideout. Very hidden from the town area, this hidden gem is actually a stall located beside a wall, directly opposite Le Siam Hotel at Sala Daeng. Once you reach the hotel, it is pretty hard to miss it as business is bustling during lunch. Usually to avoid this, it is highly advisable to arrive before 12pm, to avoid snatching tables with the nearby working community.

The twoskinnypigs highly recommends the Tom Yum Wonton Noodles (Dry) with a bowl of soup, aka Bak Mee Heng. Besides the recommended Dry Wonton Noodles, they have other noodles such as Soup Wonton Noodles, Soup vermencelli noodles and many more.
- As you can see, you can't really spot the noodles beneath. Generously topped with ingredients - half a golden semi-hard boiled egg, thin slices of pork meat and a variety of meat balls and crispy fritters, this noodles mix well with their special Tom Yum Paste, which can be found in a container on each of the tables and added according to your own preference of spiciness. Let me emphasize that each bowl of dry noodles comes with a must-try bowl of soup.

Price : 45baht-50baht per bowl
Location : Sala Daeng BTS, search for Le Siam Hotel, they are directly opposite, next to a wall.
Operating hours : 1100am-1430pm, somtimes if they sell out earlier, they close earlier.

Boat Noodles, Victory Monument
- A popular spot serving boat noodles or kuey tiau rua, these minature bowls of boat noodles can be found all over Victory Monument. The twoskinnypigs have tried a few restaurants but still prefer this particular one located right beside a canal. It is a two story restaurant with their workers dressed in purple uniforms.

At only 12baht per bowl, each mini bowl is sufficient for 2-3 spoonfuls only. So it is pretty common if stacks and stacks of empty bowls are seen on the tables. The different variety of noodles are cooked in different styles and served with crispy fritters. Our favorites being the Noodles Thicken with Pork and Noodles Sour Soup with Pork.
Price : 12 baht per bowl
Location : Victory Monument BTS, Exit the BTS, and walk towards the monument on the pedestrian bridge. Take right along the roundabout, keeping the monument to your left. Continue walking on the pedestrian bridge until you spot a canal below. The shop is right beside the canal. Workers are dressed in purple.
Operating hours : 1100am-2200pm

#PIGSTOP 4
Pad Thai, Terminal 21 Food Court (Pier 21)
- Yes, don't get us wrong but the food court at Terminal 21 serves one of the best, most convenient and cheapest Pad Thai's I have ever had in Bangkok. Besides the Pad Thai, actually their entire selection of food is quite authentic and tasty.

The twoskinnypigs will always settle for Pad Thai, Oyster Omelette, Chili Basil Pork with Rice and Mango Sticky Rice. The best part is that everything costs less than 200baht!
Price : 30 baht - 70 baht per plate
Location : Terminal 21, L5,Food Terminal, Zone San Francisco
Operating hours : 1000am-2200pm

#PIGSTOP 5
Chicken Rice Stall, Phrom Phong BTS (Exit 2)
Thanks to theskinnypig, we found another hidden gem! Upon exiting the BTS of Phromphong station, take exit 2, opposite to Emquartium and just as you walk down the staircase, you will find a stall selling chicken rice (two shops away from Naraya, PhromPhong station).

The owners are't really friendly but they will understand your order. In the twoskinnypigs opinion, the chicken rice here is as good as the popular one at pratunam, minus the long queue and hot sun. With it's generous chunks of delicious chicken meat, it might even be better?
Sorry for the poor quality picture but this is the one and only picture I have.

Price : 40baht - 50baht per plate
Location : Phrom Phong BTS (Exit 2) , next to Naraya
Operating Hours : 1830pm onwards till sold out

Som Tum Nua, Siam Square Soi 5
- This place is constantly packed with both locals and foreigners. Located in a strategic location, this restaurant is easy to find, and serves easy going modern thai food that would be suitable for both adults and kids. Although their serving portions may be a little small, their food is reasonably cheap.

The twoskinnypigs would recommend trying the fried chicken, pork neck, and somtum (papaya salad).

Mont Nom Sod, MBK Mall
- It is the twoskinnypigs usual tea time spot! One must not miss this humble shop, located in the heart of the city. Simple and amazingly affordable, their bread and milk varieties range from 25 baht to 37 baht. The bread comes in two choices, toasted or steamed. Our favorites being the Condense milk spread with toasted bread and Pandan coconut custard with toasted bread (Green topping below) and drinks being Chocolate Milk and Fresh Milk.

Their fragrant aromatic coconut scent enters your nose as soon as you take a step into this little shop. Although it is always bustling with business, their toasts and milk arrive quickly. This shop is self-serviced, and takeaways are available as well.
